Dr. Leatherman's Biography
Dr. Leatherman earned his medical degree at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude (number one in his class). He completed both a general surgery internship and a residency in Otolaryngology (ENT) at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). He received numerous academic awards and honors during his medical education. After completion of his training, he practiced as an assistant professor for two years at UAMS and Arkansas Children’s Hospital (one of the premier children’s hospitals in the country) before moving his practice to the Gulfport area to settle closer to family. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy, which signifies extensive additional education in the management of allergic conditions.
Dr. Leatherman provides care for a wide range of ear, nose and throat disorders in children and adults. His practice encompasses everything from the treatment of ear infections and sore throats to surgical management of complex head and neck disorders.
He has special interest in the treatment of sinus disorders, microscopic surgery of the ear, and the treatment of allergic disorders.He provides allergy testing and treatment, including immunotherapy (allergy shots and drops under the tongue). Dr. Leatherman also performs state of the art sinus surgery, including the latest computer guided techniques.
Dr. Leatherman is nationally recognized as an expert in the treatment of allergy and sinus disorders. He served on the leadership / Board of Directors of the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy (AAOA) for 13 years. The AAOA is the largest otolaryngology subspecialty society, and is dedicated to education, research, and advocacy in the care of allergic patients. He regularly teaches at national allergy courses, participates in medical research, and frequently publishes articles in professional journals. Dr. Leatherman makes it a personal goal to remain up-to-date on the latest medical information and pass along the newest advances and techniques to his patients.

---Dr. Leatherman delivered several instructional courses at the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy Annual Scientific Meeting September 25-27, 2015 in Dallas, Texas.
---Dr. Leatherman has been selected to teach an instructional course on in-office balloon sinus dilation (balloon Sinuplasty) at the 2015 Annual Scientific Meeting of the American Academy of Otolaryngic allergy in Dallas Texas. He will be teaching three additional instructional courses on sublingual immunotherapy, management of allergy emergencies, and penicillin allergy testing. Dr. Leatherman has also been invited to serve as an expert panelist during a symposium discussing the latest advances in sinus and allergy management during the scientific session of the allergy meeting.
---Dr. Leatherman is the lead author and project coordinator for a recently published major review of sublingual immunotherapy dosing. The article, which is titled "Sublingual immunotherapy dosing. Evidence based review with recommendations", is published in the International Forum of Allergy and Rhinolology. The Journal is the official Journal of the American Rhinologic Society and the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy. The article is intended to provide dosing information for sublingual immunotherapy which will help practitioners across the United States and internationally provide the proper doses of sublingual immunotherapy to their allergy patients.
---Dr. Leatherman is an author on a research paper that was accepted for publication in the International Forum of Allergy and Rhinology Journal. The Journal article is entitled "Allergen Stability of Testing/Treatment Boards and Immunotherapy Vials with Various Diluents". Dr. Leatherman designed the study and then worked with a leading national allergen stability research lab and a resident at the University of Mississippi Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery to carry out the research and publication. The findings from the publication have already been presented at the 2014 Annual Scientific Meeting of the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy (AAOA), and will be discussed during a hot topics symposium at the organization's 2015 annual scientific meeting. The information obtained from the study will be incorporated into the curriculum of the instructional courses of the AAOA, and will likely affect the way otolaryngologists mix allergy shot vials across the United States.
